In 2013 Yellow Island Aquaculture was honoured to receive the prestigious Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council SYNERGY AWARD for INNOVATION in recognition of the partnership that has made research-based advancements for sustainable aquaculture practices for a native salmon species.
This award celebrates the collaboration over many years between Yellow Island Aquaculture, university academics and students in a productive multi-disciplinary interaction. The professors honoured were: Dr. Nic Bernier – U Guelph, Dr. Brian Dixon – U Waterloo, Dr. Bryan Neff – Western U, Dr. Trevor Pitcher – U Windsor, Dr. Daniel Heath – U Windsor, Dr. Dennis Higgs – U Windsor, ON and Dr. Mark Shrimpton – UNBC Prince George, BC.
John Heath, President & Research Director of Yellow Island Aquaculture (1994) Ltd., received the NSERC SYNERGY AWARD for INNOVATION for a Small & Medium-Sized Company from the Governor General of Canada, His Excellency, David Johnston, at Rideau Hall in Ottawa Feb. 3, 2014.
